Pop Culture and Big Question

In our society today, there are many famous people who on the outside seem to have it all.
They have money, big houses, and fame. However, they are very empty inside. Many of them resort to drugs or alcohol to attain happiness, however it makes them sink into depression, somtimes tearing apart thier families. For example, Lindsay Lohan was a very successful actress, earning more than most Americans could ever dream of. However, she was eventually consumed by the Hollywood lifestyle, and became involved in drugs and alcohol.

Crime and Punishment

Is happiness something we create or is it dependent upon our circumstances?

In Crime and Punishment, Raskolninkov is unhappy no matter what he does. He is not happy while he is poor, before commits the murder. However, he is not happy after he commits the murder and has the money to support his sister and mother. In Raskolninkov's case, his change in circusmtances does not make him a happier person, instead he sinks futher and futher into depression.
